Of Tasting Wines and Visiting Wineries
How about planning a trip to a
group of wineries located near each other? A visit to three to
five wineries in a day is very much possible and a very
pleasant experience. Some wineries have attached restaurants
which serve lunch and dinner. All in all an opportunity to
visit a winery should not be passed by.
The secret about tasting wine
is that you are not supposed to swallow the wine. Just take a
sip and roll it in your mouth and feel the interplay of your
taste buds and olfactory senses. If you decide to drink wine,
then it is advisable to take somebody along with you, probably
a driver, who could drive you back home. Tasting wine and
enjoying yourself is possible only when you return home
safely.
Try to avoid strong perfumes,
colognes or aftershaves. You may not be able to take in the
aroma of the wine. If you want to taste wine in peace, then you
should reach the winery around ten o'clock in the morning.
Later on, after midday the winery is likely to get
crowded.
If you want to use all of your
senses to taste wine, then do not hesitate to spit out the
wine. It is socially acceptable. There is no taboo against
it.
Carry a note book in which you
may write your inferences. This will help you in jotting down
the names and years of the wines with your
inferences.
You may ask questions about
the characteristics of the wines. You may also want to go into
the various steps in making wine. If the place is not too
crowded, the workers and the member of the winery love to talk
and boast about wine from their winery.
You may want to bring your
children along when you visit a winery. They will surely be
able to enjoy the out of doors and feast on the
grapes.
