Rose wine is also known as the summer wine which is particularly red in color but has a varied range of colors. Rose wine comes in shades of pink, purple and orange also. This wine is not considered sophisticated enough in the world of wines; this is the reason many wine connoisseurs do not recommend it as a 'class'. Though, the refreshing taste of rose wine is definitely enjoyed by the ordinary. The rose wine produced in Europe is dry whereas the American type is sweet. Coming to the ways of producing rose wine, there are 3 popular methods. Each of these methods gives an altogether different flavor and color to the wine.

The first method is called the 'blanc de noir' method. For a light pink color of the wine, as per this method the grapes are crushed and left with the skins for a few hours. After few hours the pulp is drained and fermented which gives a pink color to the wine. Similar to this method is 'Maceration'. According to this method, the skins of the grapes are left in the juice that is churned out; for a darker color and a strong intensity of the wine the grape skins should be allowed to stay in the juice for a longer duration and vice -versa. It is only after the desired color and flavor of the wine is achieved, the skins are separated from the juice. Then the fermentation takes place.

The second method called 'Saignee' which means "bled" basically makes the rose wine during the making of red wine. Dark grapes are required in this process for a strong flavor. The winemaker may also add more tannin for the same. The grapes skins are left along with the juice in a vat for about two hours. Then the resultant pale pink juice is separated from the vat and rest is fermented into a much stronger red wine whereas the separated pink juice can be fermented into rose wine.

While we move to the last method of making rose wine, you must answer the question that follows. Have you heard of the word 'blush' in the world of wines? Yes, this is the result of our last method, 'the mixture of red and the white wine'. This mixture will have the flavor of white wine and the color of red one. However, this method of preparing the rose wine is not acknowledged by most wine lovers and manufacturers.

Whatsoever, the rose wine is still doing well in a large part of the world including France and USA. But, term 'blush' is no more akin rose wine. Various wine making companies in Italy and Australia use the word for the wine they manufacture.
